Forty-five Bangladeshi nationals have returned home after serving long prison sentences in Myanmar. Myanmar authorities detained the Bangladeshi nationals as they were trying to enter Malaysia illegally by sea.

Bangladeshi ship Karnaphuli Tug-1 received the returnees from a Myanmar Navy ship in Myanmar's waters. The ship anchored at the BIWTA jetty in Nuniachhara, Cox's Bazar at 9:50 am on Sunday (9 June).

Rasheda Akhtar from Jalia Palong, Ukhiya, said, "My son was imprisoned in Myanmar for eleven months. He had attempted to reach Malaysia illegally by sea. Today, my son has returned. I couldn't hold back my tears when I saw his face."

Another relative, Belal Uddin, said, "Six of my relatives were detained together while attempting to go to Malaysia illegally. They spent a long time in Myanmar's prison. The government has finally brought them back."

Meanwhile, 134 Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) and military personnel will be handed over to a Myanmar Navy ship in Myanmar's waters today.
