The Gopalganj district administration has taken control of the Savanna Eco Resort and Natural Park, owned by former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed and his family.
The district administration and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) announced the takeover through a public address announcement in front of the resort’s main entrance at 11:30 PM on Friday.
According to a court order, the district administration will exercise authority over the property starting today (8 June).
Kazi Mahbubul Alam, deputy commissioner of Gopalganj, said that the district administration has taken control of Savanna Resort on the orders of the court. Hence, everything including the maintenance of this resort will be controlled by the district administration.
According to the ACC, Benazir Ahmed built the Savanna Eco Resort and Natural Park on 621 bighas of land in Bairagitol Upazila in Sadar Upazila while he was the Director General of the Rapid Action Battalion from 2015 to 2020 and the Inspector General of Police from 2020 to 2022.
The ACC has scheduled 23 June for Benazir Ahmed to appear for interrogation regarding his alleged involvement in corruption.
