Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury has urged everyone to respect the High Court's ruling on reinstating the 30% quota for the descendants of freedom fighters in government jobs.
"We request everyone to appropriately honor the High Court's ruling and directives. As I have not yet received or reviewed the court's ruling in detail, I am not making specific comments on it," said the minister while responding to journalists' questions after inaugurating the District Administration’s Land Service Week-24 at the Gymnasium Hall adjacent to MA Aziz Stadium on Saturday (8 June).
Mohibul Hasan said, "Those who were freedom fighters risked their lives to liberate our country. In honor of these freedom fighters, the state had established a quota for their descendants. However, there have been instances of negligence and non-compliance in properly implementing this quota. The High Court has issued a directive on this matter, and we urge everyone to duly respect the ruling and the directives."
"It is extremely unfortunate that even so many years after the Liberation War, there is still so much resentment regarding the quota for the children of freedom fighters. This is very regrettable. It is unacceptable to question the legitimacy of the quota meant for the children of those who fought for our country's independence," he added.
