Legal action will be taken against those causing disruptions in the Malaysian labour market, warned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today (5 June) in the parliament.

“The issue of Bangladeshi workers not being able to go is being investigated. Legal action will be taken against those creating chaos in the labour market,” she said in response to a question from opposition Chief Whip and Jatiya Party General Secretary Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu.

The Prime Minister explained that while the government arranged special flights, many workers were left behind. "The reason for this is being investigated," she added.

She further said, “Whenever we negotiate and decide how many people will go and how they will go, some manpower businessmen rush to send workers. These people, along with some organisations in Malaysia, create disorders. This leads to an abnormal situation where workers face scarcity of jobs and salary issues upon arrival.”

She urged citizens not to sell their properties to finance migration, suggesting instead to take loans from the Expatriate Welfare Bank, which provides loans without collateral.

"Follow proper procedures to avoid these issues," she said.

The ongoing problem is being thoroughly investigated, and those found responsible will face action, she added.
