The Malaysian government remains firm on its deadline for worker recruitment, said Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Md Hashim.

"The deadline will not be extended," the Malaysian high commissioner said following a meeting with the State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Shafiqul Rahman Chowdhury on Wednesday (5 June).

She said, "We have already announced the specific deadline, which was set for 31 May. This deadline was established to ensure uniformity for 15 source countries, not just Bangladesh".

She added that reconsidering the deadline would require adjustments for all 15 source countries, and any issues would need to be resolved as well.

The expatriate state minister requested consideration of the matter, and the High Commissioner assured that she would convey this message to Kuala Lumpur.

Regarding reports of visas being issued after the deadline on 2 June, the High Commissioner refuted the claims, stating, "This information is not accurate. The Malaysian government is strict about the deadline."

In response to questions about workers going to Malaysia and not finding jobs, the High Commissioner mentioned that the Malaysian government is responsible for addressing such issues and declined to comment further.
