A group of Bangladeshi nationals has allegedly assaulted a constable of Border Security Force (BSF), who was assigned to operate the fence gate at the India-Bangladesh border.
The BSF, in a statement on Monday, said the group attempted to drag Constable Bhole across the border, reports The Times of India.
"Around 1.30 pm, a large group of Bangladeshi miscreants crossed over the International Border illegally and gathered near the fencing gate with the intention of smuggling sugar," said the BSF statement.
"Further, they started hurling abusive language and instigated the BSF Constable on duty with provocative language and vulgar gestures," the statement added.
The group reportedly assaulted him, attempting to drag him towards the Bangladesh side while seizing his weapon and radio set.
Constable Bhole sustained serious injuries from bamboo sticks and iron rods, the report added.
The BSF convened a commandant-level flag meeting with counterparts from Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) regarding the incident, where the BSF lodged a formal protest.
The weapon and radio set were returned to the BSF by the BGB, reports The Times of India.
