Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has raised concerns that the Rohingya camps could potentially become hubs for international militant groups if the repatriation process is not expedited.
During his visit to the Rohingya camp in Ukhiya on Friday morning (31 May), the minister underscored the urgency of addressing this emerging threat.
The Home Minister said, "The signs of militancy that we have been fearing for a long time are already visible in the camp. Our urgent task is to identify those who are shedding blood and engaging in militancy. The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) is doing just that."
"Bangladesh has created history in combating militancy and terrorism. APBn is working tirelessly day and night. We hope that terrorism will be suppressed here as well," he added.
During his visit, which began at 11 am, the Home Minister held a meeting with APBn officials, planted trees on the premises of the APBN office, and observed various activities within the camp. Following his engagements in Ukhiya, the minister departed for Teknaf around 1 pm.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Armed Police Battalion Chief and Additional IGP Salim Mohammad Jahangir, Additional IGP Anwar Hossain and other officials were present at the meeting.
