The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has increased the prices of water by around 10% to adjust the rates in response to inflation.

It has increased the price of 1,000 liters of water to Tk16.70 for residential consumers, up from Tk15.18, and to Tk46.20 for commercial users, up from Tk42, reads a WASA notification issued on Wednesday.

The new rates will be effective from July 1.

The decision will be applicable to all water and sewerage consumers, including meterless holdings, deep tubewells, under-construction buildings, and minimum water bills.

Earlier, in July 2022, Dhaka WASA increased water prices by 5%, which came into effect on September 1 of that year.

Dwip Azad, a board member of Dhaka WASA, said the authority can increase water prices by 5% every year to adjust for inflation under the WASA Act 1996.

The latest adjustment has been made in line with the act, he added.
