The death toll from Cyclone Remal, which made landfall in the low-lying areas of Bangladesh last night (26 May), has risen to at least 10 people.
The affected districts include Khulna, Satkhira, Barishal, Patuakhali, Bhola, and Chattogram, according to the Department of Disaster Management.
Among the deceased was Lal Chand Morol, 36, who died when a tree fell on his house in Batiaghata, Khulna.
Shawkat Morol, 65, from Shyamnagar in Satkhira, succumbed to an illness while rushing to a nearby cyclone shelter.
In Barishal, Jalal Sikder, 55, was killed by a falling tree branch.
Md Mokhles, 28, and Lokman Hossian, 58, died when a fragile concrete wall collapsed on them at a restaurant in the Rupatoli area.
Md Shaheed, 27, from Kalapara Upazila in Patuakhali, drowned after being swept away by tidal surges.
In Bhola, Jahangir, 50, from Borhanuddin, and a minor girl named Maisha from Daulatkhan, both died due to falling tree branches.
Maneja Khatun, 54, from Lalmohan, perished when her house roof collapsed.
In Chattogram, Saiful Islam, 26, was killed by a collapsing wall from an under-construction building.
