Bangladesh will get the third tranche of the $4.7 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in June, said Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali.

“IMF will disburse the third instalment loan in June. There are no issues ahead,” the minister said following his meeting with IMF Executive Director Dr Krishnamurthy V Subramanian at the secretariat on Sunday (26 May).

“We are trying to increase the flow of dollars. There is a lot of negotiation here. We hope we can solve this problem. We are working,” he added.

“Bangladesh is on the right track. We support what the current government is doing to solve the problem,” IMF Executive Director Dr Krishnamurthy V Subramanian said.

IMF approved a $4.7 billion loan to Bangladesh in January 2023, as the country was facing a foreign reserves crisis due to high inflation.

The global lender will provide Bangladesh with $1.15 billion as the third instalment of its multi-billion-dollar loan programme.
