The met office said very heavy rainfall due to Cyclone Remal may cause landslide in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The severe cyclonic storm Remal is likely to cause landslides in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department. 

The met office stated in its latest special bulletin that due to very heavy rainfall expected under the influence of Remal, landslides may occur at places over the hilly regions of Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari and Chattogram. 

Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to experience heavy (44-88 mm) to very heavy rainfall (289 mm), the BMD bulletin added.

The severe cyclonic storm "Remal" over northwest Bay and adjoining area moved northwards over the same area and was centred at 09 am today (26 may 2024) is about 380 kms southwest of Chattogram port, 340 kms southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 295 km south of Mongla port and 265 km south of Payra port.
