Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Saturday asked the maritime ports including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to lower distant cautionary signal No. 1 and instead hoist local cautionary signal No 3.

The met office has also advised all fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and the deep sea to take shelter immediately.

The deep depression over the east-central Bay and adjoining west-central Bay moved northwards over the same area and was centered at 12 noon today, about 500 km southwest of Chattogram port, 435 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 475 km south of Mongla port, and 425 km south of Payra port.

It is likely to intensify and move further northwards, said the met office, adding that under its influence, deep convection is taking place over North Bay.

Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay, and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the deep depression center is about 50 kph, rising to 60 kph in gusts/squalls.

The sea will remain rough near the deep depression center, said the met office.
