“The US can better explain the allegations on which I was sanctioned. An allegation is not true without evidence,” said the former army chief.

Former army chief Aziz Ahmed expressed surprise at the US sanction, claiming that it was imposed based on untrue information.

“I haven’t done anything that can taint the name of the army and the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB),” said the former army chief in response to the US sanction that barred him and his family members from entering the western country.

He made these remarks during an interview with a private television channel on Tuesday.

He also rejected the US allegation that he provided illegal advantages to his brother and close relatives during his tenure as the BGB director general and army chief.

“The US can better explain the allegations on which I was sanctioned. An allegation is not true without evidence,” said the former army chief.

He also added, “The government did not inform me of anything about the US move in advance.”

When asked about any intention to take legal action against the US move, Aziz said, “I don't think this is necessary as I believe the allegations are not true.”

He also referred to the Al Jazeera report titled “All the Prime Minister’s Men,” saying that the sanction is closely linked to the report. The allegations made by the US are similar to those stated in the report, he added.
