The rawhide of sacrificial animals will not be permitted to enter Dhaka within seven days of Eid-ul-Adha, considering the capacity limitations of Central Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in Savar, said Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun.

The minister made the announcement while speaking at the 7th meeting of the task force convened to propose recommendations and action plans ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

During the meeting, the minister announced a comprehensive plan for the development of the leather industry ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha.

The minister highlighted both short-term and long-term strategies aimed at enhancing the industry's overall growth.

The minister also emphasised the need to bolster preservation facilities within the leather sector to prevent spoilage.

He also outlined initiatives to alleviate capital constraints for leather traders and ensure easier access to loans.

The minister stressed the significance of Eid-ul-Adha, noting the religious importance of distributing animal skins to various institutions, including orphanages. To enhance skinning and preservation practices, he proposed organising training sessions. Furthermore, he underscored the improvement in solid waste management during Eid al-Adha, citing substantial progress in this area.

The meeting resolved to address various aspects related to the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha, including pricing of sacrificial skins, effective collection and preservation methods, and measures to prevent leather smuggling and extortion.

Additionally, steps were agreed upon to enhance the capacity of Central Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to leather industrial zones.

Moreover, discussions encompassed initiatives to facilitate easy loan access for leather traders, progress updates on environmental parameters, and plans for the redevelopment of tannery industry sites in Hazaribagh.

Nurul Majid sought cooperation from all stakeholders in implementing the decisions taken during the meeting, underscoring the collective effort required for the advancement of the leather industry.

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman, State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu, and Senior Secretary Zakia Sultana of the Ministry of Industries attended the event.
