Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury has indicated that schools are expected to remain closed on Saturdays following Eid-ul-Azha.
"The decision to hold classes at all secondary schools on Saturdays was temporary. However, we are optimistic that after Eid, teachers and students will not have to attend classes on the weekly holiday," the minister stated during a press briefing on Sunday (12 May).
After Eid holidays, schools and colleges were set to reopen on 21 April but remain closed until 4 April due to intense heatwaves.
To mitigate the academic losses caused by heat waves and holidays, the government had previously issued a directive mandating all schools to conduct academic activities on Saturdays.
However, teachers have persistently urged for the reversal of this directive, advocating for Saturdays to remain a weekly holiday.
