Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said on Saturday that efforts are underway to reduce the number of road accidents in the country.

"Road accidents occur in every country around the world. We are working towards reducing the number in Bangladesh," said the minister while addressing the 10th grand rally of Nirapad Sarak Chai at Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

At the time, the home minister highlighted the lack of awareness as the main reason behind road accidents in Bangladesh, while also pointing to the absence of training facilities for drivers, dilapidated roads, the tendency to overcross, high speed, lack of overpasses, non-compliance with traffic laws, and the negligence of traffic police.

He said the existing law explains the responsibilities of drivers, helpers, owners, and transport agencies, as well as the penalties in case of negligence in their respective fields.

The home minister said, "The government is going to ensure that the steering is in skilled hands while taking care of the issue of unfit vehicles."

Chairman and Founder of 'We Demand Safe Road' Ilias Kanchan, Secretary at Road Transport and Highways Division ABM Amin Ullah Nuri, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, and many others were present at the meeting."
