Air India Express has sacked around 30 cabin crew members, a day after nearly 300 airline employees went on sick leave and turned off their phones, causing extensive flight disruptions.

More job terminations are expected, with management planning a townhall meeting with cabin crew members today, reports NDTV.

The airline, a subsidiary of Air India now under Tata Group ownership, has faced a crisis with the cancellation of 76 flights today due to the escalating disruptions.

Sources indicate that employee discontent stems from dissatisfaction with new employment terms, citing concerns about unequal treatment and discrepancies in job offers compared to interview outcomes for senior positions.

Additionally, there are grievances regarding modifications to compensation packages.

These developments occur amidst Air India Express's ongoing merger with AIX Connect (formerly AirAsia India), adding to the challenges faced by the Tata Group.

This situation arises just weeks after Vistara, another Tata-owned airline, encountered disruptions due to pilot protests regarding changes to their compensation plans.
