A train collision in Gazipur’s Joydebpur on Friday has disrupted the schedules for trains bound for western districts and Mymensingh, causing immense suffering to passengers.
"Almost all trains on the routes are running two to three hours behind schedule," Masud Sarwar, station manager of Kamalapur Railway Station, told the media.
The cargo train, which derailed on the second line, could not be salvaged till filing this report, forcing trains on northwestern routes to operate on a single line at Joydebpur, he said. However, he expressed hope that salvage operations would be completed by Saturday.
Meanwhile, passengers were seen waiting for trains at Kamalapur Railway Station during a visit around 2:30 p.m.
"A freight train was hit by a commuter train in the Joydebpur Outer Signal (Kazibari) area on the Dhaka-Tangail rail route yesterday. Rescue operations for the oil-laden train have been ongoing for the second consecutive day today.
