Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a country-wide heatwave alert for the next two days.
"The prevailing heatwave over Khulna, Rangpur, Rajshahi divisions and the western parts of Dhaka division may continue for the next 48 hours starting from 6:00pm today," said BMD Meteorologist Md Omar Faruq on Friday (3 May).
During this time, increased moisture in the air may cause discomfort, he added.
Meanwhile, BMD said more heat waves and rains are likely to sweep across the country throughout the month of May.
Temperatures are, however, anticipated to marginally decrease compared to April, BMD Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque said.
“During the month of May normal rainfall is expected. In some parts of the country, two to three severe and occasionally one to three mild to moderate heatwaves may occur,” he added.
“There is a possibility of rain in Dhaka and its surrounding districts from the 5-6 May, and it may rain across the country from the 6-10 May. After that, the temperature will increase slightly from the 12 May,” the meteorologist further said.
