Schools may be kept open on Fridays if required to mitigate the learning gap, Education Minister Barrister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel said on Tuesday (April 30).
"Educational institutions will not be uniformly closed or opened across all districts during heatwaves. Decisions will be made on a district-by-district basis due to variations in temperature across Bangladesh," said the minister while talking to journalists at the Secretariat.
He said, "Classes may need to be suspended in some areas after a few days due to flooding. In such cases, the decision to continue classes and examinations, even on Fridays, may be considered to reduce the learning gap caused by various holidays, including natural disasters."
Regarding the court's order to keep educational institutions closed, the minister said, "The executive branch has been providing instructions in coordination with the meteorological department and the health directorate for the operation of educational institutions in different regions. Spontaneous decisions sometimes disrupt our work. Nevertheless, we respect the decisions of the court."
