China has expressed its interest in importing mangoes from Bangladesh this year.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen conveyed the message during a meeting with Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdus Shahid at the secretariat on Monday (29 April), reads a press release.
An expert delegation from China intends to visit mango orchards and production operations in Bangladesh during the mango ripening period in early June, said the ambassador.
Based on the delegation's report, China's customs department will make the final approval for the import of mangoes from Bangladesh, added the release.
Seeking Chinese investment in the agriculture sector, the agriculture minister said that Chinese investment and technical cooperation are necessary to modernize and mechanize Bangladesh's agriculture.
Particularly, China's cooperation is needed so that our farmers can access modern agricultural machinery at a lower price, added the minister.
