A sigh of relief from the ongoing heat waves is at sight as heavy and continuous rainfall are likely across the country in the first week of May, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD)
“Heat waves have broken the record of the last 76 years. However, in the first week of May, continuous rain is likely across the country,” BMD Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick said on Monday (29 April).
“In particular, the incidence of rain will be high in Dhaka Sylhet, Chattogram, Barisal and Mymensingh,” he added.
According to the latest weather forecast, two places in the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience temporary rain with gusty wind or rain with thunder.
Along with that, there may be scattered hailstorms in some places in those two regions.
Elsewhere in the country, the weather will remain mainly dry with a partly cloudy sky.
The forecast also states that a very intense heat wave is flowing over Jashore and Rajshahi districts.
Besides, an intense heat wave is flowing over the Khulna division along with Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Naogaon, Pabna and Nilphamari districts.
A mild to moderate heatwave is passing through Dhaka, Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban districts.
During this time the day temperature may increase slightly and the night temperature may remain almost unchanged across the country.
Besides, there may be discomfort due to excess water vapour.
