Amid the ongoing severe heat wave flowing over different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a heat wave alert stating it will continue for another 3 days.

"The ongoing heatwave over the country may continue for the next 72 hours from today," a notification signed by BMD Meteorologist Hafizur Rahman said on Sunday (28 April).

An excess of water vapour may increase discomfort, it added.

BMD said a very severe heat wave is passing over the Chuadanga district and a severe heat wave is passing over Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Jashore and Kushtia districts.

A mild to moderate heat wave is prevailing over the parts of Rajshahi and Khulna divisions and Dhaka and Barisal divisions including Dinajpur, Rangamati, Chandpur, Feni and Bandarban districts and may persist.

Day temperatures may increase slightly and night temperatures may remain almost unchanged across the country.

Earlier, a 3-day heat alert was issued by the Meteorological Department for the first time on 19 April due to a severe heat wave.

The alert has been extended several times since then.
