Primary schools to reopen Sunday with morning classes due to heatwaves

The government has decided to reopen primary schools from Sunday with morning classes scheduled until 11:30am to mitigate health risk from ongoing heatwaves. 

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued a notice on Saturday (April 27) outlining guidelines for the resumption of classes.

For primary schools operating in single shift, classes will run from 8:00am to 11:30am. Those schools operating in a two shifts will hold classes from 8:00am to 9:30am for the first phase, with the second shift classes scheduled from 9:45am to 11:30am.

These instructions apply to all government primary schools, those managed by the Shishu Kalyan Trust, and learning centers under the non-formal education bureau, said Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, information officer at the ministry.

Pre-primary grade classes will remain suspended until further notice, Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin added.

He also noted that assemblies will remain suspended until the situation stabilizes to an acceptable level.
