State Minister for Education Shamsun Nahar Chapa said today a decision regarding the reopening of educational institutions will be made on Saturday, taking into consideration the prevailing weather conditions.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat in response to inquiries about a potential extension of the closure of educational institutions due to the three-day extension of the heat alert, the state minister for education emphasised the need to weigh all factors before reaching a decision.
Addressing the issue of online classes, she said, "While classes can be conducted online, many schools lack the necessary infrastructure to facilitate virtual learning. Therefore, a comprehensive decision will be made after considering all aspects."
Earlier, on April 20, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and the Secondary and Higher Education Division declared a seven-day holiday for secondary and higher secondary educational institutions, prioritising the health and safety of students amidst the scorching heatwaves. Educational institutions are scheduled to resume operations on April 28.
Meanwhile, a severe heat wave continues to affect the country, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to extend the heat alert period until April 27. According to a weather forecast signed by Shahinul Islam, the Meteorological Department predicts that the heat wave will persist throughout the month of April.
