Those who persist with their candidacies until the final stage of the election will face timely action from the party, Quader warned.

Action would be taken if the relatives of Awami League ministers and lawmakers disregard the party's instruction not to participate in the upazila parishad elections, AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader warned on Wednesday. 

"The deadline for the withdrawal of candidature in the first phase of the election has passed. Some individuals said that 'if we had been informed about the matter earlier, it would have been easier for us to make a decision'. Nonetheless, there is still an opportunity to step back from the race," said Quader at a press conference at the AL president's political office in Dhanmondi.

He said disciplinary measures would be enforced if party directives were not adhered to, adding, "Just as action was taken against those who defied the party's decision in the 12th national parliament election, the party will assess its own actions.
