Arafat Islam assumed his role from his predecessor Khandaker Al Moin on Wednesday (24 April)

Commander Arafat Islam has been appointed as the new director of the Rapid Action Battalion's (RAB) legal and media wing.

Arafat Islam assumed his role from his predecessor Khandaker Al Moin on Wednesday (24 April).

An officer of the Bangladesh Navy, Arafat Islam began his military career as an officer cadet with the 35th BMA Long Course in 1995.

He was commissioned in the executive branch in 1997 and joined RAB on December 2022. 

In recognition of his professional excellence, Arafat Islam was honoured with the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM), Navy Medal of Excellence (NUP) from the Bangladesh Navy, and President Coast Guard Medal (PCGM) from the Coast Guard during his tenure with RAB.

He also received accolades such as the Admiral's Commendation and the Force Commander's Commendation from the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission.
