Doctors in Chattogram have halted their private practices to demand the arrest of individuals who attacked Dr Raktim Das at Patiya General Hospital, as well as the revocation of bail granted to those who assaulted another physician at Medical Centre Hospital.

The decision was made on Tuesday (23 April) during a joint meeting of various medical associations including the Bangladesh Medical Association, Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad (Chattogram branch), Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA), and the Bangladesh Pediatricians Association (Chattogram).

The cessation of private practice will last for 24 hours until 6 am on Wednesday, said Dr Faisal Iqbal Chowdhury, the general secretary of the Bangladesh Medical Association.

As part of the protest, private chambers will not offer treatment and private hospitals and diagnostic centers will not admit new patients during this period.

However, pending test reports will still be delivered by diagnostic centers, said Dr Faisal.

The closure of private chambers and diagnostic centers has caused distress among the general public, who are now unable to access treatment.
