Two students from Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) were killed and another was seriously injured after their motorcycle was hit by a bus on the Chattogram-Kaptai road in Rangunia.

The accident took place near Selina Kader Chowdhury Degree College, close to Jiyanagar in Rangunia, around 3:30pm today (22 April).

CUET’s Assistant Registrar (Coordination) Muhammad Rashedul Islam confirmed to Bangladesh First that the victims were students of CUET.

The motorcycle was rear-ended by a bus operating under the Shah Amanat service which caused the students to be thrown off their bikes, according to eyewitnesses.

The deceased were identified as Shanto Saha, a third-year civil engineering student, who died at the scene, and Toufique Hossain, a second-year student from the same department, who succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Another second-year student, Zakaria Himu, sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated at Evercare Hospital Chattogram.

By evening, students had blocked the road in front of the CUET campus and detained four buses from the Shah Amanat line in protest of the accident.
