Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen has instructed hospitals across the country to be prepared to deal with patients suffering from heat related diseases.

The minister also suggested that hospital authorities refrain from admitting patients with mild illnesses to help manage the possible surge of summer patients.

The minister issued the instructions at a press conference held at the secretariat on Sunday (April 21).

He said, “The risk of heat strokes increases in summer. To address such patients, new policies on patient management have been developed and communicated to hospitals. Adequate stocks of saline and medicines are also stocked.”

The minister advised against hospitalising patients with mild illnesses who do not require immediate admission, as well as those who do not currently need surgery.

In advising children and the elderly to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary, the health minister said, “Considering the situation, the holidays of educational institutions may be extended. We must not put children at risk.”

He urged people to visit hospitals immediately if they experience symptoms such as cessation of sweating, nausea, severe headache, increased body temperature, decreased urination, burning sensation during urination, convulsions, or fainting.

State Minister of Health Rokeya Sultana also participated in the press conference, stating that the concerned authorities have been instructed to prepare the dedicated Covid-19 hospital of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) along with hospitals nationwide to manage patients affected by the heat.
