Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) has postponed examinations amidst a student-led boycott of academic activities, marking their protest against campus politics.

Sources from a recent academic council meeting revealed that Buet made the decision last evening in light of the ongoing student demonstrations.

The students have been abstaining from classes and examinations, denouncing the presence of Chhatra League activists on campus, where political activities are prohibited.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a member of the academic council disclosed that the authorities postponed the exams in consideration of the prevailing circumstances. The rescheduled exam dates will be announced at a later, more suitable time, the member added.

Buet students have persisted in their boycott of exams as part of their ongoing movement against campus politics even after Eid holidays.

The ban on student politics at the university was enforced following the tragic murder of second-year student Abrar Fahad by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League members at Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 7, 2019.

On April 1, the High Court temporarily suspended the university's notice banning student politics on campus.
