At least 13 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) surrendered to the Bangladesh Coast Guard after crossing the border to escape the conflict in their country.
The 13 BGP personnel entered Bangladesh through the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar on Thursday (18 April), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Shariful Islam said on Friday (19 April).
Later they were handed over to the BGB, he added.
Earlier on Tuesday (16 April) night, 46 BGP members from Myanmar entered Bangladesh through the Naikshyongchari border in Bandarban.
Presently, there are at least 274 members of Myanmar’s army and BGP are staying in Bangladesh.
It may be noted that at the beginning of this year, 330 BGP members and their family members entered Bangladesh amid the intense conflict between the rebels and Myanmar junta.
Later on 15 February, they were sent back through Cox's Bazar sea border.
