Prices of onions in the capital’s kitchen markets have surged after the Eid holidays – jumping by Tk5-10 per kg.

Following the import of onions from India before Eid, the kitchen commodity was being sold for Tk45-50 per kg.

However, visiting the capital’s Karwan Bazar kitchen market on Tuesday (16 April) it was seen onion was being sold for no less than Tk60 per kg.

Although Indian and Pakistani onions are at the same price as before, traders say that the price of onions may increase again due to preservation and supply issues.

Sohel Rana, an onion trader in Karwan Bazar, said that the price of onion has increased by Tk2-3 per kg in wholesale, and by Tk5-10 in the retail market.

He said the prices may increase even more in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the prices of other vegetables remained the same as they were before Eid.

Traders say that the price of vegetables is the same as before Eid.

The price of some products has been reduced up to Tk10.

However, after the holidays the price may increase, traders said.
