A total of 1, 891 candidates have submitted nomination forms to contest for three posts in 150 upazilas' elections scheduled to be held in the first phase on 8 May.
Out of the total contestants, 696 filed nomination forms for the post of chairman, 724 for vice chairman and 471 for the post of woman vice chairman.
Election Commission (EC) additional secretary Ashok Kumar Devnath made the disclosure on Monday adding that this year candidates were allowed to file nomination papers online only.
Monday was the last day for nomination paper submission, he said.
According to the schedule, nomination papers will be scrutinized on 17 April and appeals against the decision of returning officers can be filed on 18-20 April.
Appeals will be settled on 21 April and deadline for withdrawal of candidatures is 22 April.
Finally, symbols will be distributed on 23 April.
