Three people, including an Awami League (AL) leader from Khulna sustained bullet injuries after being shot at by miscreants wearing helmets during a chat at a tea shop in Jashore’s Abhaynagar.
The incident took place in Rajghat area of the upazila at around 9pm on Friday (12 April), Abhaynagar Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Shubhra Prakash Das said.
“Details of the incident will be known after investigation. The injured have been admitted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital,” he added.
The victims have been identified as Khulna Awami League leader Molya Hedayet Hossain alias Litu, 50, local Jubo League leader Khairuzzaman Sabuj, 32 and Nashim Bhuiyan, 28, a Jubo League activist.
Hedayet Hossain was shot in the stomach, Khairuzzaman in the face and stomach and Nashim Bhuiya in the hand.
According to witnesses, the three of them came to Rajghat of Abhaynagar upazila around 8pm on Friday and were chatting and drinking tea near the bus stand.
Then, at around 9pm, two men wearing helmets on a motorcycle came, fired several round and fled.
Locals came forward and rescued the three after hearing the gunshots.
