Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in the country with due fervour and solemnity on Thursday (11 April) after the moon of the Arabic month of Shawwal was sighted in the sky of Bangladesh on Wednesday (10 April).

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages greeting the countrymen as well as the Muslims across the world on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr. 

The main jamaat of the Eid-ul-Fitr was held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8.30am. . 

Another congregation of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr prayers will be held at 8:30 am at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Eid day. 

Besides, five Eid jamaats (congregation) have been held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin offered the prayers of Eid-ul-Fitr along with hundreds of devotees from all walks of life at the National Eidgah. 

Apart from the head of the state, the country's eminent personalities, including the chief justice, cabinet members, judges of the Supreme Court, lawmakers, senior political leaders and top civil and military officials also offered their prayers there. 

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. 

Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk during the holy month.
