No chance of untoward incidents in Dhaka by KNF: DMP

There is no chance of any untoward incident in Dhaka due to the recent Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) attacks in Bandarban, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur.

“DMP’s Eid security programme has been designed after monitoring the overall situation of the country. There are no chances of any untoward incident in the capital over recent attacks by KNF in Bandarban,” he said at a press conference after inspecting the security management at the National Eidgah on Tuesday (9 April) afternoon.

“Militant organisations with which KNF has been associated are also inactive. So far there is no reports of any kind of militant activity around Eid. Even then security plans have been taken after monitoring all the issues,” he added.

Noting that extensive security arrangements have been made in all Eid congregations across Dhaka, including the National Eidgah, the DMP chief said there will be five levels of security in the main congregation.

“The entire area will be monitored through CCTV, drone patrolling and watchtowers. Plainclothes policemen will be on duty and searches will be conducted at entrances with metal detectors,” he added.

He also said there will be separate prayer arrangements for women, they will be searched by women policemen.

Besides, SWAT, bomb disposal units will be on standby to deal with any situation, he added.

In response to a question regarding buses charging extra fare the DMP commissioner said, "We have held several meetings with the bus owners' association and the concerned authorities. All of them said that they would not charge more than the amount fixed by the government. The counters in the DMP area have round-the-clock police presence to take action in case of complaints. So far, we have not received any specific complaint.”

Police have been instructed to take immediate action over transport companies charging extra fare, he further said.
