An 18-year-old youth died yesterday at an Indian hospital, a day after being shot by members of the Border Security Force (BSF), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said today.

Liton Mia, son of Moksedul Islam from Dighaltari village in Durgapur union, Aditmari upazila, died around 10:00 pm last night, Lieutenant Colonel Mofazzal Hossain Akhand, Commanding Officer of Lalmonirhat's 15 BGB Battalion, told the media this morning.

Liton sustained bullet injuries while attempting to bring cows from India through the Dighaltari border illegally, according to the BGB.

He was taken to Cooch Behar Hospital in India by BSF members.

A letter has been sent to the BSF requesting Liton's body, said Mofazzal Hossain. He added that the BSF informed them that the body will be handed over through a flag meeting after autopsy."
