Students have taken up position in front of Bangabhaban, demanding the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin along with three other key demands.

The protest began at 3:30pm on Tuesday (22 October), as the students gathered for a sit-in demonstration outside the official residence of the president.

Upon visiting the scene, it was observed that the protest was joined by several organisations, including the Committee for the Protection of Independence and Sovereignty and Zia Cyber Force, among others.

Some individuals also participated under personal banners, highlighting their individual causes.

Meanwhile, a mass gathering has commenced at Shaheed Minar, rallying for the resignation of President Shahabuddin and the banning Chhatra League.

This assembly was called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and one of its coordinators, Hasnat Abdullah, posted on Facebook calling for everyone to gather at Shaheed Minar at 3:30pm on Tuesday (22 October).

In his post, Hasnat Abdullah described Chhatra League as a "terrorist organisation" and called for its prohibition.

Furthermore, he referred to the President as an "ally of fascism" and demanded his resignation.

Another coordinator, Sarjis Alam, also announced his intention to be at Shaheed Minar in the afternoon, encouraging others to join the protest via a Facebook post. In his message, Sarjis wrote, "We stand with the revolutionary student masses at Shaheed Minar, demanding the banning of the terrorist Chhatra League and the resignation of fascist ally Chuppu."

Recently, in an interview with Manzamin newspaper editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, the president stated that he had not received any documentary evidence or formal resignation from former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

This statement sparked widespread debate and criticism throughout the country on Monday.

Following this controversy, various quarters have questioned President Mohammed Shahabuddin's position.

However, the president has reiterated that Sheikh Hasina’s resignation is a settled matter and urged the public not to create further debate or destabilise the interim government.

A press release from the President’s office, issued on Monday (21 October), confirmed his stance.
