Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan has emphasised Bangladesh's active participation in COP29, ensuring that climate-vulnerable nations are at the forefront of global climate action.

She expressed Bangladesh's eagerness to contribute to meaningful discussions at COP29, highlighting the necessity of global cooperation in addressing climate challenges, particularly for countries like Bangladesh.

Rizwana Hasan made these remarks during a courtesy visit from Elchin Huseynli, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan, the host country for the upcoming COP29 summit, at her office in the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday, reads a press release. 

Earlier that day, Nardia Simpson, the Acting High Commissioner of Australia to Bangladesh, also met with the Environment Advisor to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation on environmental protection and climate resilience.

Rizwana Hasan noted that Australia has been a key partner in enhancing Bangladesh's climate resilience, expressing a desire to deepen collaboration to protect biodiversity and safeguard communities from climate-related disasters.

Both meetings reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to tackling the global climate crisis through international partnerships. Key topics discussed included the conservation of river ecosystems and the promotion of renewable energy.

Attendees included the Environment Secretary, Water Resources Secretary, and senior officials from both ministries and the respective embassies.
