Interim government adviser and one of the coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student movement, Nahid Islam, has been named in Time magazine’s esteemed TIME100 Next list.

Published on 2 October, the list highlights 100 individuals from around the globe who have made substantial contributions across various sectors.

"Nahid Islam didn’t need to be older than 26 to help topple one of the most powerful figures in the world. The sociology graduate is among the leading figures of a student movement that ignited nationwide protests against Bangladesh's prime minister Sheikh Hasina," reads Time magazine’s profile of Nahid Islam.

It further says, "The greatest challenge may yet lie ahead. Islam is one of two Gen Z ministers in the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus. Their mission: to restore the democratic system that was undermined during the 15-year tenure of an increasingly authoritarian regime."

At just 26, Nahid Islam is one of the youngest ever to be appointed as an adviser to an interim government in Bangladesh. A native of Dhaka, he is currently pursuing a master's degree in sociology at Dhaka University.

The TIME100 Next list is a celebration of emerging global leaders who are already making a substantial impact.

This year's honorees reflect a broad diversity in leadership, with over half being women and the majority representing leaders of colour.
