Former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who has faced significant criticism, including over fifty lawsuits for his role in suppressing the student-led anti-discrimination movement, has recently been spotted in a park in Kolkata.

This sighting has sparked widespread speculation about whether he and several high-ranking officials are currently in the country or have fled abroad.

Upon reports of their presence, Mohammad Shah Alam, the Additional IGP for the Special Branch, commented, "I have seen reports in the media regarding the former home minister and several others being seen in a park in Kolkata. However, the immigration police have no information on how they managed to travel there."

Shah Alam further assured that the individuals spotted in Kolkata, including the former Home Minister, did not pass through immigration channels, stating, "There are no records of their departure from the country at immigration."

When asked how they may have left Bangladesh, Shah Alam indicated that, in the absence of any immigration records, it is likely they exited through unofficial routes.

"They could have walked or driven," he noted.

Similarly, Lieutenant Colonel Munim Ferdous, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said that they also possess no information regarding the individuals’ departure.

The former home minister and several leaders of the Awami League, including former MP Asim Kumar Ukil and his wife, along with one of Haji Salim's sons, were captured on camera by a private television station in Bangladesh while enjoying their time at Kolkata's Eco Park.
