Dhaka metro rail will run on Fridays from now on, said the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).

"Trains will operate between Uttara and Motijheel from 3:30pm to 9:00pm, and from Motijheel to Uttara North between 3:50pm and 9:40pm, with a 12-minute interval between trains," said DMTCL Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rouf said in a press briefing on Thursday (19 September).

The Kazipara Metro Station has been fully repaired and made operational at a cost of around Tk20 lakh and will be operational from Friday (20 September), he added.

He further stated that efforts are also underway to reopen the Mirpur-10 Metro Station as swiftly as possible, with necessary procedures currently in progress.

Addressing the metro service disruption between Agargaon and Motijheel on 18 September, he explained that the closure was due to the displacement of an elastomeric bearing pad located between a pillar and the viaduct near the Vijay Sarani and Farmgate stations.

In order to investigate the technical fault and to prevent such incidents in the future, a seven-member technical committee has been formed, tasked with submitting a report along with recommendations within five working days.

Previously, on 18 September 2024, a technical glitch caused the suspension of train services from Agargaon to Motijheel starting from 9:40am, in the interest of passenger safety.

The technical issue was rectified, and normal train operations resumed at 8:25pm the same day.
