Countrymen will benefit from the magisterial powers granted to the commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Army, said Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

"The army has been working tirelessly in the field for an extended period, providing services to the public. The magisterial authority has been granted to the army to further serve the public welfare and uphold law and order," the adviser said following the closing parade of the 40th BCS (Ansar) Cadre Officers and the 25th batch (Male) recruit sepoys' basic training at the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy in Safipur, Gazipur on Wednesday (18 September).

He added that the country's law enforcement agencies face manpower shortages, and the army is working to address this issue.

Regarding police officers who have been absent from duty between 1 August and 17 September 2024, the Adviser said that those who have not yet returned to their posts will not be allowed to rejoin, and disciplinary action along with legal measures will be taken against them.

He noted that the number of officers who have failed to report back is minimal and primarily involves those engaged in illicit activities. He urged everyone to assist in bringing these individuals to justice.

The home boss described the Bangladesh Army as a disciplined, people-friendly force.

He emphasised that the general public should have no concerns about interacting with the army or seeking their assistance when needed.
