Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted that rainfall may decrease across the country from Wednesday to Friday. During this period, light to moderate showers could occur in several coastal districts.

However, a new depression forming between 21-22 September could lead to an increase in rainfall, potentially lasting for two to three days, said a BMD bulletin on Wednesday (18 September).

Meanwhile, with the reduction in rainfall, temperatures across the country have begun to rise.

The maximum temperature has reached around 36°C, with Rajarhat recording a high of 36.5°C on Tuesday and Dhaka experiencing 34.8°C. Further temperature increases are anticipated.

Additionally, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre has indicated that water levels in rivers across Rangpur, Sylhet, Chattogram, Dhaka, and Khulna divisions may continue to decrease over the next few days.

Conversely, the Padma River in Rajshahi may see a rise in water levels over the next four days, though it is expected to remain below the danger level.

Among 116 river monitoring points across the country, water levels are rising at 24 points and falling at the remaining locations.

In the past six weeks, five minor depressions have formed over the Bay of Bengal, leading to increased rainfall across extensive parts of Bangladesh, including the coastal regions.

The most recent depression made landfall on the Cox’s Bazar coast four days ago.
