Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will organise rallies and assemblies in divisional cities across the country, including the capital Dhaka to observe "International Democracy Day".

The central assembly will be held in front of the BNP’s headquarters at Nayapaltan in the capital at 2:30pm on Tuesday (17 September).

Tarique Rahman, will deliver a speech to the party members and activists virtually. The assembly will be presided over by BNP’s Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Additionally, BNP standing committee members will serve as chief guests at the processions taking place in divisional cities.

The event was initially set for 15 September, but due to unfavourable weather, the BNP postponed the assembly to 17 September.

On the night of 14 September, BNP standing committee member, Professor Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, announced the change of date at a press conference.

Explaining the decision, Dr Zahid Hossain stated that the "International Democracy Day" programme, originally planned for Sunday, was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
