Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) has called on the Coast Guard to work diligently to prevent hilsa and fertilizer smuggling to India through sea and waterways.
The Home Adviser made this appeal on Monday during a meeting with officials from the Coast Guard, according to a press release.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, "Considering the needs of the country people, the government halted exporting hilsa to India. Amidst a dollar crisis, the government is meeting the supply of fertilisers through imports. This situation increases the risk of smuggling hilsa and fertilizer to neighboring countries. Therefore, the primary responsibility of the Coast Guard is to prevent the smuggling of these goods via sea and waterways."
Praising the Coast Guard, the Home Adviser commended them for maintaining high standards and showing commendable performance, especially in contrast to lapses observed in other law enforcement agencies.
Among others, the Senior Secretary of the public security department of the Ministry of Home Affairs Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen, Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali and others were present at the exchange meeting. During the event the advisor was briefed about the various activities of the Coast Guard.
