Cases will be filed in connection with the police killings and looting of police stations during the anti-discrimination student protests, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Mainul Hasan.
"Criminal acts are never time-barred. Cases will also be filed in relation to the killings of police officers and the looting of police stations,” he said while addressing members of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) during a meeting and exchange of views at the DMP headquarters in the capital on Sunday (15 September).
On the topic of mass arrests and case filings, he clarified, “The inclusion of a name in a First Information Report (FIR) does not automatically necessitate arrest. Collective investigations will be conducted, and actions will be taken accordingly. Directions have been issued to proceed in this manner. All cases will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate measures will be taken.”
DMP commissioner further assured, “All police stations will return to their normal activities within the next one or two weeks. There have been improvements in traffic management, with traffic police now working late into the night. Further progress is expected. Additionally, the police will become more active in preventing street robberies. Patrol and checkpoint activities have already commenced.”
