Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Moinul Hasan has instructed police officers to maintain professionalism at all times and avoid any behaviour that could damage the image of the police, both at home and abroad.
The commissioner made these remarks as the chief guest at a meeting with members of the Diplomatic Security Division on Friday (13 September).
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner of the Diplomatic Security Division, Mohammad Nure Alam.
At the beginning of his speech, the DMP commissioner expressed his prayers for the souls of those who sacrificed their lives in the recent public uprising and conveyed deep condolences to their families.
He also paid tribute to the police officers who were injured or lost their lives while maintaining law and order during the unrest.
DMP chief assured that those officers injured in the uprising would receive proper medical care.
He emphasised that the Diplomatic Security Division is a vital unit within the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, tasked with maintaining law and order in areas housing foreign embassies and diplomats. He urged officers to provide maximum security and services to diplomats, stressing the importance of professionalism. He warned that any unprofessional behaviour that could tarnish the image of the police, both nationally and internationally, must be strictly avoided.
Addressing the current situation, the commissioner noted that every member of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is striving to fulfil their responsibilities with professionalism and heightened morale.
In a call to the officers, the DMP Commissioner reminded them that the police force is a well-disciplined body governed by law and regulations. He encouraged them to uphold the highest standards in their appearance, conduct, and service while on duty.
There is no room for any form of unprofessionalism or laxity, and officers must remain humble in their interactions with the public, he added.
Furthermore, the commissioner urged all members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, at every level, to perform their duties with a strong sense of responsibility.
He stressed the importance of maintaining law and order, ensuring the safety of lives and property, and establishing the public’s full trust in the police force.
During times of crisis, officers must deliver the expected level of service so that the public views the police as their ally.
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Nure Alam presented several specific challenges and limitations faced by the Diplomatic Security Division.
The DMP Commissioner listened attentively and assured the officers that all issues would be addressed.
Additionally, he directed the relevant officials to ensure the welfare of the force by improving cleanliness in the barracks, enhancing the quality of meals, and organising regular sporting activities.
