A heatwave is currently affecting 18 districts across the country, including Dhaka, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
However, relief may be on the way, as the heatwave is expected to subside in some districts by Friday (13 September) evening.
On Thursday (12 September), Mymensingh recorded the country’s highest temperature at 37.4°C, according to the BMD.
In an official statement, the BMD reported that a mild heatwave is sweeping over several areas, including Dhaka, Tangail, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj, Rajshahi, Bogura, Sirajganj, Nilphamari, Chuadanga, and Kushtia districts, as well as the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
However, the heatwave may ease in some locations by Friday evening.
The office also noted the potential formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which could bring gusty winds and rain to all divisions of the country.
In some areas, heavy to very heavy rainfall is also anticipated.
Given these conditions, the BMD predicts a slight drop in daytime temperatures nationwide on Friday.
Additionally, temperatures may fall by 1 to 2 degrees on Saturday (14 September).
However, temperatures are likely to rise again on Sunday (15 September).
